Not much to post this week!

Because I posted so many pictures last week, there isn't much to post from this weeks classes. I will try to get some pictures up Monday-today was a busy day.

Third grade did upload some artwork to artsonia and that went great! Check it out! It should be approved and uploaded by tomorrow or Sunday. Artsonia goes through the pictures and makes sure your students' names don't show.

Art contest opportunities

Here are a few art contest opportunities that have come to my attention. While we won't take time in art class to enter most of these, I am always willing to help students with any projects they may submit or send them in for students.

These flyers are posted in my classroom. If your student would like to enter but you are having troubles reading the flyers in these pictures please contact me and I will send more information,

Demonstrating Contrast

Eighth graders have just completed a project that I must say turned out amazing! Students learned about value the first couple weeks of class, then used what they learned to make patterns create contrast. Eighth graders chose the first letter of their first or last name and used different fonts to draw it nine times. Students then attempted to make the letter contrast with the background using light and dark values. Here are some great examples that are currently on display in the art room:

The Yellow Line Close Up

I have already posted pictures of the "Yellow Line" bulletin board, but here are some of the pictures closer up. These turned out really great

More Perspective

Sixth graders went from putting their name in one point perspective to learning about how to create a city landscape in one point perspective. The theme was supposed to be futuristic, so you may see some interesting ideas in these drawings. Here are some examples:

Jim Dine Hearts

Fifth grade has been learning about an artist named Jim Dine, who was inspired by cubism. He used the common "heart" in many of his paintings. Students learned about two of the principles of design, pattern and unity. They have been using oil pastels to create unity in the separate pieces of their heart. Here are some great examples from 5B:

      Peter

      Isaac

Sunset Silhouettes

Fourth grade has been working on a fall/Halloween inspired sunset silhouette picture. We painted the sunset in the background with watercolor and cut out black paper for the silhouettes. Here are a few examples that turned out great:

     Claire

      Bridget

     Jude

Third Grade Leaf Collage

Third grade has been inspired by our current season the past couple of weeks. We have been working on a tissue paper collage. These will be the projects we use for our next artsonia upload, hopefully up and running next Friday. These projects have turned out really nice! Here are some examples:

Eventually, all classes K-5 will complete a self-portrait. This week K-2 finished theirs. They all turned out pretty good, and EVERYONE improved from their "pre-instruction" drawing of their face. Here are some examples from KA, KB, 1A, 1B, 2A, and 2B.
